Throughout August of 2016, we cleaned more than 7,000 chairs during milliCare’s Month of Care CHAIRity event. Those cleanings raised the funds to purchase 79 bikes and helmets from Together We Rise, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of America’s foster children. That’s a lot of bikes!
Our team came together earlier this spring for our second annual Bike Build event to assemble the bikes. Twenty-one employees donated their time and had lots of fun and laughs while building the bikes. We were thrilled to be able to provide this many bikes to local kids.
The bikes were donated to Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. (BAMSI), a private, non-profit human services organization providing services to adults and children with developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and behavioral health challenges. We first traveled to East Bridgewater to deliver bikes and helmets to the eight graduates of BAMSI’s Brockton After School Enrichment (BASE) program at their commencement celebration on Friday, May 19. The remainder of bikes and helmets were donated on Thursday, June 22 at BAMSI’s Children, Family and Community Services Summer Kick-Off. Each time, the excitement of the children was contagious: they laughed, raced each other, and popped wheelies!
